Ordained to the priesthood on September 30, 1978, Father Sam Esposito is an alumnus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Spanish Secondary Education. His seminary formation at Mount Saint Mary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, awarded him two degrees: a Master of Arts in Church History and a Master of Divinity.
Father Sam served as a parochial vicar in two parishes, and then, for seventeen years in health care ministry, including as Director of Pastoral Care for the UPMC hospitals in Oakland. He returned to parish ministry as a pastor, working in both Beaver and Washington Counties.
In 2011, Bishop Zubik appointed him Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Vicariate III, and he served on the boards at Quigley Catholic High School and McGuire Memorial during that time. He became the Episcopal Vicar for the Implementation of On Mission for The Church Alive!, in 2017, as well as chaplain to the Felician Sisters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Convent and was honored by the Serra Club of the diocese with the Good Shepherd Award in 2018.
In October 2019, he became Senior Parochial Vicar here, where he assists in the formation of liturgical ministers, works with liturgy and hospitality, and oversees the pastoral care of the homebound. In addition to ministry in our parish, he is chaplain at the OLSH Convent, and on weekends is supply priest for Grouping #100, the parishes of Bellevue, Emsworth, and Franklin Park. He is a member of the Board of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School and on the Priest Council for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. In addition, he has been a faculty member in the formation of candidates for the Permanent Diaconate since 2009.
