The AGP Music Ministry invites you to consider serving the church as a cantor and/or choir member! Vatican II’s document on Sacred Liturgy Sancrosanctum Concilium states two chief roles for music in the sacred liturgy. First, and most importantly, sacred music must glorify God. Second, it must sanctify the Faithful, to make us holy. Therefore, music ministers play an integral part in worship, and we pray you will consider contributing to the liturgical beauty of AGP.
Cantors lead congregations in song through hymnody, Mass parts, and the various responses. Generally, cantors sing an average of two to three Masses per month, but we accommodate any schedule conflicts. If you’re a newcomer and want to try it out, then that’s fantastic! We will provide as much training, coaching, and opportunities for you to shadow more seasoned cantors as you need. Additionally, most cantors serve as choir members, which often conflicts with Mass times when the choir sings. While we happily accept interested cantors for all our Mass times, we particularly need availability for the 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, and 11:00 AM Sunday Masses from September through June. If you’ve any interest or questions, then please contact Music Director Dr. Vincent Rone at [email protected]. You’re also more than welcome to chat with cantors or the Director of Music after Mass.
The AGP Parish Choir has grown steadily since 2020, to 18 singers in 2023–24 from nine in 2020! Consequently, the choir has taken its show on the road and alternates singing at the 8:00 AM Mass at St. Malachy Church and the 11:00 AM Mass at St. Mary, Help of Christians Church. We plan to continue this new tradition at AGP, because it's important for all the Faithful to be able to experience the liturgy more deeply with beautiful music. But we need your help! We invite anyone with an interest in choir, between curiosity and fiery passion, to contact Dr. Vincent Rone. You’re also welcome to attend rehearsals to see things for yourself. We have a lot of fun and laugh a lot during rehearsal, but we also understand the solemnity of our role as music ministers and settle for nothing less than our best efforts—we offer our best gifts of music for the greater glory of God.
All singer types for choir are welcome, but we particularly need tenor and bass singers. Please consider this call to serve Christ and his Church through beautiful sacred music. Choir rehearsals are held at 7:00 PM on Thursday evenings at Holy Trinity Church, beginning September 12.
We sincerely hope and pray you’ll consider offering your musical gifts as a cantor and/or choir member in service of our Lord! Many thanks and God bless you.
