Updates on the AGP Preschool & Nursery and St. Mary, Help of Christians Church

Since I assumed the role of Parish Administrator in December 2022, one of my top priorities has been the evaluation of the parish’s ministries and resources and working toward ensuring that they best serve the people in our care. I consider the Archangel Gabriel Parish Preschool & Nursery, which provides faith-based childcare and education to our families and children, essential to the ministry and mission of the parish. To this end, we have been working with a consultant with extensive experience in childcare facilities and their operations. This short-term arrangement is meant to provide professional support as we examine the potential for growth and enhancements of the programs we offer.

Over the past few weeks, there has been much speculation about the operations at Archangel Gabriel Preschool & Nursery. Quality childcare is difficult to find and there has been understandable concern over the status of the school and its leadership that has led to confusion and frustration. In addition, some misinformation has been circulated that has also complicated communications.

Please let me assure you that I am committed to the continuation and growth of the Archangel Gabriel Parish Preschool & Nursery. As more families continue to seek compassionate, faith-based care for their children, we are laying the groundwork for the growth of this ministry and are in the midst of a search for candidates for both leadership and classroom opportunities to support the talented and dedicated educators and caregivers already in place.

Another issue I wish to address is the current closure of the front entrances of St. Mary, Help of Christians Church. This is directly related to concerns about the safety of the stained-glass, rose window located directly above these entrances. Pieces of the window framing have fallen off, and although the pieces have been small, they pose a safety risk. We have been consulting with engineers and restoration companies about the status of the window and are awaiting direction about how to proceed. In the meantime, a scaffolding will be constructed to provide protection for those attending church. We will work to keep you updated as the situation develops.
