The Maronite Church is one of the 24 churches sui iuris that are Catholic and under the authority of the bishop of Rome and intimately tied to the nation of Lebanon.
When it was in the Hill District, the parish was called Saint Anne's and was the parish in which Fr. Lou Vallone, priest in residence at AGP, was baptized, and where he currently celebrates liturgy and the sacraments in both the Latin rite and the Maronite rite.
Seeing the crucifix in its new home is a comfort to Fr. Vallone, and he hopes it also brings comfort to the former parishioners of Mother of Sorrows that the image of Jesus on the cross still overlooks a neighboring worshiping community of Catholics.
