On Sunday, April 24, more than 50 people converged on Youthtowne in Clinton, PA, for the 2nd annual Archangel Gabriel Parish Kite Festival. Organized by Deacon Tim Killmeyer, the event started last year in response to the need for some outdoor family fun after the pandemic kept people isolated for so long.
“Coming out of the pandemic last year people were looking for things to do outside that didn't require close contact,” said Deacon Tim. “Flying kites is an inexpensive activity that appeals to people of all ages and is a great family activity as well.”
Among the attendees was a mother and daughter who had never flown a kite before. “She bought one of the inexpensive kites we had for sale,” said Deacon Tim, “and some of the Knights of Columbus who were there showed her how to put it together and get it in the air. They really enjoyed themselves!”
In addition to the Knights of Columbus who manned the concession booth, Deacon Tim wanted to express his gratitude to Tim Burke and Cooked Goose Catering, who donated food and pastries, and Tim O'Sullivan, who manages Youthtowne, for allowing the parish to hold the event on their grounds.
As the event continues to grow, Deacon Tim hopes to see even more faces at this fun family event.
