Effective for the new liturgical year, Advent 2024, there will be a translation change from the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) to the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). In order to most effectively communicate how this ministry serves our parish, moving forward, we will use the name "Christian Initiation."
Christian Initiation at Archangel Gabriel Parish provides formation for any or all of the Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. We also prepare individuals to return to, or receive for the first time, the sacrament of Penance in preparation for their other sacrament(s). Christian Initiation is offered on a year-round basis for those who:
Are not baptized (Catechumen)
Were baptized in a Protestant denomination or baptized Catholic and never received catechesis (Uncatechized Candidate)
Were baptized in a Protestant denomination and have received catechesis (Candidate)
Are a cathechized Catholic who never received the sacrament of Confirmation (Confirmation Candidate)
Are fully initiated in the Eastern Rite and seeking to make a profession of faith in the Latin Rite
While the above categories fit most individuals, we strive to provide individualized spiritual preparation for each inquirer and recognize that different catechetical approaches may be appropriate.
If you are an adult interested in becoming Catholic, or are a catechized Catholic seeking the sacrament of Confirmation, please contact Ministry Leader Patty Sampogna at [email protected]. Inquiries for those between the ages of 7 and 17, should be directed to Director of Formation Steven Swank at [email protected].
