This Sunday we celebrate the first of three Scrutinies for Airen Lowenstein. The Scrutinies are special rites of the Church for the Elect who are preparing for the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. During this time, Airen is called to examine (scrutinize) the areas of her life in which she can grow in repentance and turn from the darkness of sin to the light of life in Christ.
The gospel readings for these liturgies lead us all towards deeper knowledge of Christ as the living water (gospel of the S amaritan woman in the first scrutiny), the light of the world (gospel of the man born blind in the second scrutiny), and the resurrection and the life (gospel of Lazarus in the third scrutiny).
As a parish community, let us all pray for Airen as she continues her sacramental preparation this Lenten season.
